Spud Drive-In Theater is one the few remaining drive-in theaters in America. It is most famous for it's Burgers, Fries and of course Old Murphy, a 1946 Chevy cab-over truck that hauls the worlds largest seed potato. Old Murphy proudly sits in front of the our wooden tower. That pride rightly earned for he may be photographed as many times as the Grand Tetons. Dawnelle and Richard added the potato shortly after buying the drive-in in 1987. Combining talent and ingenuity Larry Hull and Richard created "The Spud".
Joe Bob Briges named the Spud one of his favorite drive-ins in Entertainment Weekly and US Today also rated us one of the top four drive-ins.
The Spud was built in the spring of 1953 by Acel C. Wood, Richard's great uncle, and opened it's doors July 3rd, 1953. It was a state-of-the-art facility back then, using mono-speakers that hung in the windows to broadcast the audio, and twin carbon ark real to real projectors to project the movie. Today, the audio is transmitted through FM stereo and each car can tune in with great sound quality. Some things have been updated at the drive-in, but the spirit remains the same.
This year marks 55 concecutive years for The Spud. Come celebrate with us as we continue to be the gathering spot for families and friends to meet and create memories under the stars at The Spud.
